Argonaut is a good squash to eat but you better be hungry because they are big.
what are your favorite winter squast?
I usually grow Butternut (Waltham) and a spaghetti squash. Last year I grew a hybrid butternut I picked up at the local farmer's co-op. I think it was called Avalon or maybe Avandale? I grew it in a back bed I am just getting started so lots of weeds, but it did it's own thing and produced pretty well considering I neglected it. The taste was good, pretty similar to Waltham, but the vines were longer (to me) and the squash was bigger. I froze some and chopped up the rest for the goats and chickens. They voted cloven hoof and feathered feet (thumbs) up. I'll probably go with Waltham again this year. I did Hubbard one year and they turned out pretty well. Don't know why I didn't try them again. I haven't really decided about squash this year yet so maybe I'll do the Hubbard squash again this year. Surplus is always welcome in the chicken coop and goat pens!
