On average, if employed, how often do you call in sick to work per year? What do you think is a fair number of days for justified illnesses (not mental health days) LOL! I was given a warning for missing 1 day and 2 hrs with my new employer in almost 5 months of employment. I'm really struggling with this. I've worked for companies that gave me 7 and 10 days sick time. I don't call in unless I'm really ill and don't feel like it's safe to even drive.
Thanks for your input!
Just Curious-Sick Days
I haven't called off work sick in at least 4-5 years. That does sound a little extreme that you got a warning for missing a day though.
It all depends on the company and the state laws.
The plant that I worked for, 3000 workers. allow only 100 sick hours. But these hours are for the whole time one worked for this company.
For example.. if you missed December 10th, you'd be charged for 12 hours (12 hr. work shift). These hours will come off your record next December 10th, if you weren't absent. If not, you accumulated 24 hrs.
If you have a serious illness, maybe you could apply for FMLA?

Read your employee handbook - there should be something written in there. If there is not, they have no legal right to say anything until they have a written policy in place.
Some companies "give you" sick days, other companies make you use personal or vacation time.
