Looks like a couple of walkingsticks. Maybe male and female Creosote Bush Walkingsticks.
It is hard to tell if there are small spikes on the heads which this walkingstick should have. The smaller one would be the male.
They are harmless and their food source is host bush leaves.

I THINK it is called a piggyback bug and is poisonous, have to find where I heard that name

Looks like a couple of big fat Walking Sticks to me. There aren't that many poisonous insects in the U.S.A. - I think maybe someone was pulling your leg.

There is one species of stick insect in the southern USA that needs to be treated with extreme caution - http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/misc/walkingstick.htm

Colorado is not home to the spitting biting poisonous ones like Louisiana and Texas-and probably Florida. anisomorpha ferruginea. or Pseudophasmatidae. Closest I can find. They were never poisonous farther north where I grew up, down here they are. Have been seen around Travis Co (Austin) so I think with my blurry phone pic of this critter in N Houston area,I am content with id. thanx guys- these were on a dying quercus nigra-oak wilt is getting it slowly.
