CLOSED: Can Anyone help me identify this spider?

Dublin, Ireland

Hi :) I'm new here. We found 2 if these guys living in my shead. They seem to be nocturnal. They are about 20/25mm. One is smaller. I presume it's the female. Thanks in advance :)

These appear to be in the genus Steatoda, a group that includes the so-called false widow spiders. In spite of the recent media hype, these spiders are not dangerous to humans.

That's what we where thinking. They look quite comfey in my freezing cold shead! They may stay there! Am I right in thinking the female is smaller? She seems to be out and about more.

With spiders, it's usually the male who is smaller - he also would have enlarged pedipalps - see http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Adult_male_Steatoda_bipunctata.jpg for an example.

Thanks flapdoodle. I didn't think they would do well in cooler temps. I won't bother them if they don't bother me :)
