I'd imagine it's naive to think there's an easy answer to this, but I'm trying to narrow down what type of fly this might be. Does the part black, part transparent wings seperated by the zigzag pattern narrow down the possibilities? Thanks in advance!

There4 are several species of bee flies (Bombyliidae) that can have a similar wing pattern. Here's one example: http://spiders-n-stuff.blogspot.com/2013/01/bee-fly-hemipenthes-morioides.html
