Appallingly Bad Pictures; Volume 22

(Zone 5a)

Here is our new thread full of icky, terrible bird photos. It was bad over there. If you want to see how bad, go back to the old thread.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1241329/

If you have some horrible pictures destined for deletion, post them here first.

Here is my little piece of headless rubbish. It was taken on a cloudy day, using whatever wrong manual setting.

This is one of my favorites - and since Resin seems to recognize the inverse of these avian aeronauts...

Dark-eyed Junco, & Red-bellied Woodpecker, respectively ;-)

Thanks for starting the new thread!

You're welcome Resin. I was ready to post a new picture and saw your comment. :)

An ugly, mad Red-winged Blackbird.

1 Killdeer posterior not showing any field marks
2 One of these rocks is a Northern Flicker
3 & 4 Bald Eagle - you will have trust me that it isn't a hawk, crow, or trash bag on an updraft.

Excellent telephoto shot of Cottonwood twigs with an owl in the background

Here's a Blue Heron not waiting for me to focus while it was perched...

A couple of Cedar Waxwings (I think) deftly behind branches of Pterocarya fraxinifolia...

Male Red-winged Blackbird. This is after tweaking the color and contrast, you can almost see the wing-bars.

Big ice storm, causing power outage from severe tree damage, and resulting in stay-at-home day - which means lots of bird photo opportunity...

1. North end of some little sparrow headed south...
2. Pretty sure everyone recognizes this blur...
3. North end of Mr. T headed south...
4. Mrs. C won't hold still...
5. I need new contact lenses...

Love your photos! :D

This is a Winter Wren... or not. I just took a shot in the direction I saw it land.

The first Downy Woodpecker I've seen this winter. I only got one shot, and I have the double error of focusing on the branch, and the branch is blocking the head and bill.

Bravo!

Oquawka, IL(Zone 5a)

I could fill this thread up with one day's attempt at photography! Thank goodness for digital! I have to work on following birds in flight! The Red-Bellied Woodpecker almost got away! But, after seeing the picture maybe I should have let him get away!

Just half way there Rose, You at least got the head in focus. ;)
Those awful bothersome branches, they always want front row.I have way to many of those too.

Ooh spooky Cardinal and Titmouse. VV

Tried for a flight shot of yesterday's Iceland Gull.

It didn't work.

I like your Red-bellied, Rose. :) In flight pictures are terribly difficult, as you can see here.

Both of these were taken on days it was nice enough to go on walks. I am trying to get more active. I need to stay at a good pace, but the birds are always slowing me down. HA!
1- Presumed Horned Lark bombs
2. Bald Eagle waaay off in the distance.

Well, not a bad shot of the feeder. ;-)

Pueblo, CO(Zone 5b)

Good shot of "Green", too. We aren't leafing out here yet, my view is mostly shades of gray, brown, and tan.

Newport, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanx. I wish it was this green here, the pic is from last year. funny thing is, the only hummers are on the windchime in the blurred foreground.
Good greief! This is just The *Best* thread!

Pueblo, CO(Zone 5b)

1 One of these rocks is a bird, probably a Cassin's Kingbird
2 Shrike, probably a Loggerhead

I enjoy winter, but if it has to go, it should immediately bring the green. We're at that icky brown stage before the color.

I could not believe how close this Northern Harrier was to me and I still could not get a decent shot! .

Chillybean..LOL..I soo hear that...Every time we have gone eagle watching this is what I get ...overcast,my lens wants to focus on all the sticks an twigs...not the birds... ; }

Huggergirl - those are't too bad, at least they are focused on the bird not the tree. Well, except for that last one ...

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

well thank you..I was just disappointed...seeing a Juvie eating a fish wishing I was in abetter position...without scaring him off...I promise to post some really good bad photos...Ha that is a bad one like what is that...an eagle nest with 2 in it ...this was last years...

Green-winged Teal

I had to ask the experts to make sure this is what they were. It was drizzly and foggy, not a good time for photo taking, let alone walking. :)

Greater Scaup being goosed - or perhaps I should say - swanned ;-)

Here is a cardinal looking a bit perplexed. (I had been trying to capture birds all winter. But my lens did not have much reach, and the cardinals will not let me get close). I figured this pic qualifies since there is a whole lot else that makes it just plain bad.

Hi,
I'm new to this thread but not to struggling with photos of birds. Darn, they just won't HOLD STILL!
This one's trying to wave me off-"No pictures, please".

Thumbnail by nmbirder
Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh, that's a good one. :-D

Albuquerque, NM

Thank you. Here's another "portrait" of a bird. Wait, doesn't "portrait" imply a head shot?

Aw, camera shy. ;-)

Fishing trip, Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Sept. 2012. These guys did better than we did-fishing was slow because it was hot & the river was low.

Ha ha, nmbirder, I love the photobombing crow.

(Zone 5a)

Great photos. How did you get so close to the Vulture, nmbirder? They are skittish here. That crow is funny. We had some photo bomb Brown-headed Cowbirds and they were trying to look cute among all the Yellow-headed Blackbirds.

I have some terrible pictures from Kansas, but we gained some life birds, so bad pictures or no, we're happy. :) I need to get them on the computer yet.
