African Marigolds

West Babylon, NY(Zone 7a)

I saved seed from last year and grew african marigolds. This year those seeds became 5 feet tall with multiple huge flowers they were amazing! Do these plants normally get so big?

I was looking for those tall marigolds. as I noticed them when looking up the "regular" ones. Maybe the shorter ones are hybrids and your tall ones have just reverted to their true state. I wonder if mine will do that next year when I plant them. Guess I won't put them were I want 6" tall plants, LOL.

Well, there are "African"marigolds (tall) and "French" marigolds (very short). They seem to be different species (T. erecta and T. patula).

I often see the African ones with blooms that are huge (double) and each bloom is all-one-color (yellow, gold or orange, usually). Like Tagetes erecta 'Crackerjack'

The French marigolds that I've noticed often have two colors in one bloom. Say, red and orange or yellow and red.

I just ordered some tall white ones from "Sampleseeds".
I just found this seed seller and it's pretty cool, packages have less seed and are inexpensive.
