What is this?!?! I am not a fan of spiders and just found this in my bedroom in my apartment in Japan. Is it poisonous? Thanks in advance for the help.
Spider in Japan. Please Help identify.
This is a harmless (to humans) jumping spider in the family Salticidae - see http://www.flickr.com/photos/35818847@N02/5319323995 for a similar example. Nearly all spiders (including this one) possess venom glands and thus are considered venomous, but only a tiny fraction actually are dangerous to humans. See the 'sticky' on spider bites at the top of this forum.
Thank you. I really don't like bugs (well just don't like them inside my house haha). I jumped when I saw this one, mainly because of it being thick and fuzzy haha. And because my deployed husband wasn't here to squish it for me. I'm glad it's harmless though. :)
