Not from a pot, and not a young plant,
but a mature plant that has been in the ground for several years.
"Leonotis leonurus"
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/167869/
Are its roots sensitive to such a procedure?
Would it be better to simply grow it elsewhere from cuttings,
& just pull out the mature plant, to replace it with a different plant at that location?
I'd like to try it in another spot where it gets some shade,
because in the heat of the mid-summer sun, its flowers don't do well at all, here.

What are the do's and don'ts of transplanting Lion's Tail ?
If the Lion is still attached, treat it with extreme respect and a good deal of caution.
;-)
Funny, Resin!
My neighbor's 'little lion' was in my yard this morning haunting my birdbaths, and nearly caught one in a jump to the top of one of them, but just pulled out a few feathers, and the bird flew off.
I think you could do either,
but as that is a tender perennial, this is not the best forum for the question. I guess in your zone, it seems like a shrub, like butterfly bush.
I have to whip my Leonotis into shape several times a year - its branches spread and sprawl everywhere, making it look like a total disaster. I don't get many blooms because I have to shear it back so drastically.
