thanks for the point in the right direction, think it maybe Brithys crini Noctuidae Lily borer larva. Was going to put one in a jar (like we did as kids) and see what came out but when I returned to the plant they were on they had all gone!
Brithys crini appears to be an Old World species that would not occur in Jamaica - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brithys_crini
