What's happening in your neck of the woods November13

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

WEATHER, where would we be without it, pretty boring I would say .. however, these 'extremes' well sure do make you pine for Robins and blossoms ^_^

Susan .. not to fret until you have seen the doc, and, go with questions in hand ..
Like Ann says, thankful we live in Canada ..

Hi Dianne .. Lorna and I just brought in some wood .. when Gord isn't here, Lorna walks her walker to the backdoor, and, I fill it with logs for the hearth .. easier on me, and she is able to manage the wood better that way as well .. we have natural gas that will kick in if the wood stove isn't warm enough .. far better like the wood heat though.

Good to hear from you Ann .. imagine thinking of gardening already, but, time does seem to fly sometimes..

Take care all

Waving Ann, now how did I know you would be five steps ahead of us re your gardening..never have much luck with wintering canna's how do you wake them up?

Just heard on the news that Superior propane is running out..has been since last us met..they are now starting to supply to homes that it is the main source of heating, those using it for fireplaces etc as secondary heat will just have to wait!

Dianne, the only thing I miss being in this house is no wood stove.

Susan make sure you write down any questions you have. I know once you are in the midst of the appointment it is easy to forget what you wanted to ask. Warren's cancer docs actually praised me for having a list of questions. Santa Warren and I used to chuckle when the docs actually started the apptment by asking if I had my list ready. On of his docs actually asked me to email my questions the day before we were to meet so he would be sure to have all the answers.

My GP thinks I am nuts because I still chose to heat with wood. We have oil as a back up and the downstairs has infloor heating but I prefer the wood heat for the upstairs. I love the whole process of heating with. I even have my own chainsaw and a small splitter. The only downside is the dust.

Like Ann and M I am very thankful I live in Canada. Wish we could do something about our dental system though.

Dentures here, should last the rest of my days! Can't think what I would do if I had to pay dental fees without insurance..best I keep crazy glue nearby should I break them. Lol

List are always good, all questions answered

I've lists for lists ..guess I could say I'm a list person as well Dianne.

I'm a great person for lists...... those for the Dr are my preference!
btw - when Bob got his EKG, I'm supposing that the Dr will have the results by Tuesday when he has his full physical, and then he gets a CT scan on Wed, and an abdominal test on Saturday (the 1st).
So, with 2 app'ts this week (bloodwork, and the results), and 3 next week, Bob's being well taken care of......

This Ann is playing The Planets in an orchestra concert tomorrow and had a rehearsal this evening for a CAMMAC concert in February. For the CAMMAC concert, there is no viola part
in one piece and I've been asked to play 1st violin. I wonder if my violin has strings on it. ;-P
I brought the part home to take a look after Planets are done. Didn't stick around for the rehearsal on that piece this evening though as we have a dress rehearsal tomorrow afternoon before the concert and I'm also ticket manager for the orchestra.

And the handbells play on Sunday.
This is the handbell piece - http://www.hopepublishing.com/html/main.isx?sitesec=1.2.4.0&workid=3112 Click on the icon under "Listen" to hear what we are playing. It's challenging because it has quite a few meter and tempo changes. And for those musical ones, if you want to see what it looks like, the first 3 pages are available as a pdf.

Here are some links I've been posting on FB about The Planets. There are seven movements and these are introductory videos which are well done, albeit, just a teaser, I think as there's an ad at the end of each.

Meant to say that it's been my turn to start the Coffee ... threads over on Parking Lot this month. For those of you who are interested in hostas, starting Jan. 2, I've been posting pics of some of my favourite hostas each day. Here's a link to that first thread. I started with 1 each day and quickly decided I needed to show more to finish in a month. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1346048/

VAnn - that was beautiful! Thank you for sharing :-)
I wish our church still had the loan of handbells......
and "Saturn, the bringer of old age"? Don't think I like that planet anymore lol

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

LoL, I think (am SURE) I prefer Jupiter .. 'The Bringer of Jollity" ^_^
You've been quite busy Ann, the Hand Bells sound beautiful, and, yes quite the piece to play .

Susan, good to hear you take a list to the appts, docs expect that nowadays.
Patients are far more knowledgable due to the internet, and docs are on their toes fer sure.

DH and I have supplemental insurance for pharmaceuticals .. it's out of pocket for dental, but, I have been told you can claim that on your income taxes .. 2 cleanings a year and a general check up is in the neighbourhood of appox $500. EACH
Highway robbery, but, have been having regular cleanings and check ups for too many years to stop !

An inside day, far too cold outside to do much of anything ..

Take care

I so love the handbells, friend Rita was sitting reading when I went on your link, she asked what I was listening to, told her, said how soft and soothing it sounded, I agree

Think my favorite of the Planet was Mercury!!

Thank you for the liks..

Did you check on the strings yet??can see you ready to leave with an instrument without strings..lol

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Mercury is the BEAST. Tempo of dotted quarter note = 145 clicks per minute. 3 notes per click. I likely spent 15-20 minutes daily with a metronome on Mercury this past week.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .. back to cold temps, not quite AS cold, but, damp mixed with cold.
Guess Europe got the rains this winter.

Have been so excited about watching the Sochi Olympics from Russia starting in Feb., but, am now starting to be very nervous that 'something' is going to happen, re breaches in security and the athletes.
Seems to be so much NEGATIVE coverage right now ..

Nursing a 'booboo' right baby toe .. I 'zigged when I should have zagged' walking behind Lorna and her wheelchair .. after 4 years I thought we had gotten it down to an fine art, but, last evening she accidentally ran over my baby toe .. of course she feels awful, but, we both know it was an accident, but, I'll survive ...

Think we might be taking a day off from the gym ... be nice just to kick back here. Have a recpe I want to make for 'chickpeas' .. high in protein, which is what Lorna is looking for. Have had the chickpeas for a couple of days, and, they won't coat and bake themselves it seems

Ann .. I surely hope MERCURY has been tamed by you !!

Take care all

Mercury is done and over. Am now working on music for a CAMMAC concert in mid-February. I'm leading the viola section for a Haydn Mass but the Mozart Vespers has no viola part. In a weak moment, I agreed to try the violin part. I don't usually even admit I own a violin and it hadn't been out of the case for months. And there's a learning curve. Interesting variation though.

Is Betty still away? I'm thinking we need a new thread for a new month. I'm willing to start it if Betty isn't available to do so.

Where IS everyone?

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I'm here.
Had my chemo med last evening, so am laying low today.

Will your schedule with the orchestra let up in the spring?

Susan, have you heard from Home Depot?
How's your Mom getting on?

Betty mentioned it's Ground Hog Day tomorrow! Hard to believe it's here already.
Have chosen the Seattle Sea Hawks to win the Super Bowl, I bet with Lorna's dad, a big $2.00

Ps... Got a seed and bulb cataloge yesterday. :-)

Marilynne - hope you feel better soon after the chemo. How long do your treatments last?

There are a couple of orchestras. I no longer play in the Ottawa Symphony, having retired at the end of 2010, but the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra (which is "chamber" in name only these days) has a 4 concert series. We just finished the second of that series and will start on the 3rd which will be April 12. But in February there is the annual winter concert of CAMMAC which has a rehearsed choir and orchestra.

I moved us over to a new thread since this one has been going for 2 months. You'll find the new one at: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1349158/
