Looks like an Orb-Weaver in the genus Araneus. ?
Here's a link to a page that lists which States the various species of Araneus have been found in (scroll down a bit):

The ventral pattern appears more typical of a Neoscona sp. rather than an Araneus - see http://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/spiders/Neoscona%20crucifera.htm for an example.
