CLOSED: Is this a false widow, remarkably similar

Not the best picture I know!!

It is the pattern on the back that makes me think it is a false widow.

If it is, what should I do? Are there any sprays or powders that will keep them at bay?

Not a false widow, but a harmless orb weaver. BTW, most of the 'news' in the media about false widows appears greatly overblown - http://www.theguardian.com/environment/blog/2013/oct/17/false-widow-spider-attacks

Yh I guess unlike yourself, these reporters don't know the first thing about spiders, so just write the most horrifying stories possible!!
