We seem to be getting infested with this spider around the outside of our home with the odd one managing to get inside, not sure what type of spider it is, but some of the markings have made me wonder if it is the false widow spider, we are in staffordshire, UK

This is a harmless orb weaver, most likely a Zygiella sp. - see http://www.nicksspiders.com/nicksspiders/zygiellaxnotata.htm and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zygiella_atrica
BTW, most of the recent media hype about false widows is inaccurate, to say the least...
