Please help me identify this spider!!

I have been told this is the false widow spider! I have never seen a spider like this before, please help me to identify this spider, i'm scared it may be poisonous..

This is a harmless orb weaver in the genus Araneus. For some reason, there recently has been a lot of misleading information in the news about false widow spiders. Nearly all spiders have venom glands, but only a very few species (none in Britain that I know of) are truly dangerous to humans. See the 'sticky' on spider bites at the top of this forum...
