I found this little guy hanging out underneath an apple tree in Greene Co. NY. Any thoughts on what his scientific name might be?
CLOSED: Little Green Bug Needs Identification
A Green Stink Bug in the Genus Nezara, I believe.
Appears to be Chinavia hilaris, known as the green stink bug - http://horticulture.oregonstate.edu/content/chinavia-hilaris
Nezara viridula and Chinavia hilaris are very similar - Chinavia hilaris adults have a pale (not black) dot in each basal corner of the scutellum, and antennal segments 3 & 4 are blackish (not reddish) and the blackish color is restricted to the apical half of those segments.
I was just going to ask that very question. Thanks, Flap!
Fantastic, many thanks!
