N Central TX R.U. October 20th in Arlington (FOOD THREAD)
I would like to bring homemade cookies. 5-6 dozen. We are driving to Dallas on Saturday to do some things, so I need something that can be hauled for 2 days!!.
I'll bring napkins, cups, paper plates and utensils for eating but not for serving. Can also bring straws as I think I have a box. Not sure if I have any toothpicks.
I'll bring a dessert that can travel well.
Very good, I will make note of all this.
I will bring Kale salad
and stuffed vine leaves
Thak you Anna.
Just remembered to look for this thread...will post later once i decide what to make and bring ...but it will be good to eat :-)
Josephine -
Not sure if you heard the word, but I'm not going to bring the napkins, cups, plates and utensils. Steadycam will be bringing those. So make that change, please, on your master list. And take Steadycam's name off the dessert list. Thanks.
Haven't decided what to bring that I wouldn't be tempted to devour before arriving at the RU.
I will dwell on it for a little while and get back to you.
BTW, are there any (or many) vegans or vegetarians in the group? Speak up, y'all. It might help me decide what to bring.
O.K. I will change it, thank you.
O.K. guys, the time is getting close. and we need to perk up, I will bring
Brown rice and vegetables casserole
Iced tea and Ice.
I will bring a side dish: hummus & veggies & pita chips. Depending on what's fresh and available, I might bring something else to go with the veggies & pita chips.
Question: Whether it's a main or side dish or even a salad, does it need to be enough to serve, say, 20 people? That's what has been holding up my decision.
Not really, just a regular serving amount will suffice.
flowerchild, last year there were several who must eat gluten-free so veggies are good, just no wheat.
I'm just lurking until the last minute since I'll probably stop by the grocery store on the way there. What do we need the most?
We need protein, Dennis. Fried chicken, baked beans or tuna sandwiches, e.g.
Ok, just now getting a breath to put in my offering. Thanks Marty for the reminder, I know it is difficult for you to bring anything hot or cold coming up from Houston.
I guess I will put myself down for 2 loafs of Tuna Salad and PB & J sandwiches. May throw in some deviled eggs too. That should cover me, Herman.
O.K. Sheila I will put you down for Tuna and Peanut butter sandwiches.
I can bring some cooked grilled chicken to add to the salad
Add those deviled eggs too Josephine they are no trouble to me, make them often.
O.K. deviled eggs from Sheila.
Sorry for the delayed response. I've been battling a toothache. Found out today the tooth is cracked and I can't get it fixed until next week. However, I do plan to attend the round-up, even if I don't feel too great. Rick will pick up some food to bring. It looks like we could use another side dish and dessert, so put me down for those please and we'll see what goodies the deli and bakery have that morning. Will that be okay?
Of course. I will post it, and I hope you get to feeling better.
FYI - I'm bringing more than the humus & veggies. Most likely I'll make tzatziki and one other thing. I just haven't been to the market lately and don't know what's especially fresh, etc. (I'd love to make some spring rolls but don't know if I'll be feeling especially dexterous.) But I'll have plenty for folks to eat. I did already buy some gluten free crackers which I courageously taste tested & gave them my seal of approval. :D
I can also bring a 24 pack (is that considered a case?) of bottled water if that would help.
Thank you, please let me know what you decide, but please don't get carried away.
I went by Randoll Mill park this morning and our name is on the marquee for Sunday, hooray!!
Will it help to have the water? I am totally unfamiliar with the park, so don't know if there is a water fountain and if there is one, if the water is 'drinkable'.
I have to get water for myself so no big deal to buy more. Not a major expense.
And I won't go overboard. I'm just not seeing a lot of folks sign up for stuff. BUT (there's always a 'but', eh?), for anyone, especially out-of-towners, who want, they could 'contribute' by sharing the wealth with me, so to speak.
Will try to get to mkt late today or early tomorrow and get back with you.
Oh dear, the food.
I could bring scrambled eggs with swiss chard and onions and garlic stirred in, or stop by the grocery store and pick up whatever we need the most.
Or I could bring tea bags and something with hot water or to heat water for hot tea with honey or sugar?
(I will drink iced tea but this time of year I prefer hot tea, or coffee. I could also bring coffee I suppose)
What do we need the most?
I'm no chef but I can cook to some degree (my baking is pretty much confined to canned biscuits) as well as pick up something (chicken/whatever) if necessary so some idea of what to bring would be helpful. I do a pretty good fruit salsa to go with chips if it will help.... Suggestions please?

The water will be good, Flowerchild.

Skeeter I didn't know you were coming, maybe some cookies would be good.
__________________________________________________________________
Gypsi hot drinks might be difficult, I can bring a thermos with coffee.
Josephine,
What would you like me to bring? There are grills and I have a metal teapot.
I am allergic to milk and somewhat sensitive to gluten so I tend to cook stir fry type stuff with neither and certainly no cheese. (that nearly kills me)
I can do some kind of scrambled egg and vegetable stirfry casserole.
Gypsi, I will bring black coffee, that should be o.k., lighting a grill takes a long time.
My brown rice and vegetables has no milk, cheese or glutten, but if you want to bring eggs and vegetable stir fry that will be good.
Josephine, I'm bringing a Romaine, celery, apple, craisin salad with with boneless/skinless lemon pepperflavored chicken breasts to add if wanted.
Do we need another dessert?
Oh, I didn't know there was a grill.
Gypsi, I can bring a metal teapot also, if we decide we're going to heat up the grill. And I've got lots of tea. Let me know what you decide.
Skeeter, that fruit salsa sounds good. If nothing else, I might want the recipe.
Everything sounds good. I'm hungry already!
O.k. Sybil I will put you down for a salad.
I will bring an egg - veggie casserole. and I will probably bring a way to warm a teapot or some hot tea because I would feel guilty drinking it in front of everyone, and I keep bees so I will bring honey
Not sure if my stomach will handle coffee on Sunday or not, it is a touchy situation so I will bring what I can handle
Don't feel guilty. But if you do figure out a way to warm a teapot, let me know so we can double it.
So you keep bees? Cool. Honey. Goooood. :D
Are you allergic to all forms of milk, including feta cheese?
Gypsi, that sounds good to me, do what works for you.

I'm packing some extra door prizes if needed.
