Going shoppin'

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

for plants :) This is BETTER than being a kid at Christmas - my BIL wants me to select the shrubs for their house (50 year-old home, needed updated landscaping and new shrubs.) So I'm heading for Smithville and McMinnville, the nursery center of Tennessee, a plant lover's paradise. This area is chock-full of nurseries, and the prices are GREAT.

With any luck, I'll come home with several large Red Twig Dogwoods, Oakleaf Hydrangeas, a couple Dwarf Spruce, and a slew of azaleas and spireas.

See ya'll later! (If I don't come back, you'll know I loved it so much, I decided to stay permanently, LOL!)

Hey go vols. Let me know if you see any Bryans in Mcminnville. If you do tell them I said hello. Jim

Have fun go_vols!!! Sounds like you're gonna have one heck of a Play Day!

Go,
I say if you see something you love and can't live without you just add the bill to your BIL's total.

go vols I was curious about McMinnville being I have ties to that area of the number of nurseries there. I did a search and there was 100 listed. Wow I better plan on staying more than a weekend when I come again. I bet you made all of them today. I also did a search of Bryans in the directory and only 5 was listed. In Manchester there was 29. I could never tell where Manchester and McMinnville stoped and started.

Jim, if you found 100 nurseries, you only touched the tip of the iceberg. Seriously there are more nurseries in this area than you can count - they start in Smithville, and go through McMinnville to Smartt and on into Manchester. Some are small, some are large. Some won't talk to you unless you are an "established nurseryman" buying wholesale; others will let you walk in and shop.

I had a very successful, fun time today. I targeted one nursery that had everything on my wish list on their website, but of course they were out of one item. Still looking for 'Anthony Waterer' spiraeas :(

Everything else is home safe and sound. I'll take them to my BIL's tomorrow or Friday, and we can start playing, I mean arranging ;0)

Just so you get an idea of prices, I bought Dwarf Alberta Spruce, about 36" high, in three gallon containers for $18 each; 5' tall ball-and-burlap Red Twig Dogwoods were $16 each; three-gallon Oakleaf Hydrangeas, 3-4 feet tall were $14 each.

I don't know about ya'll, but I can't touch those prices in town. If I could, I'd prefer to buy from some place here in town, but they can't come close on shrubs. At least I'm keeping the money in state.

Anybody else need their landscaping re-done? I'd be glad to go shopping for ya :)

Thanks go vols. I will know where to go. I better start planning on a trip before long. Jim
