I found this grasshopper in a field underneath the power lines in Greene Co., NY. I would love to know it's species but that can sometimes be tricky with bugs. At least it's genus or family would be helpful.
CLOSED: Found Grasshopper
Family Acrididae, genus Melanoplus; maybe Melanoplus femurrubrum - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fc/Melanoplus_femurrubrum_20070903.jpg
Haha, WOW that was quick. Great, Many thanks!
This is a very widespread species; it is one that I had to tabulate while part of a USDA crew working on range-land grasshopper surveys in western ND some 50 years ago...
Neato. Thanks again!
