CLOSED: Bug Infestation in apartment - Bed bug or not?

Toronto, Canada

I woke up two mornings ago with 7 very itchy bites, 3 on my hands, 2 on my feet and 2 on my body. I got paranoid and started looking in my bed and cleaning everything. I found a bunch of these bugs (photo attached - best quality I could get). I've looked up bed bugs and it doesn't seem the right body shape to me, they are reddish brown though.

I'm on the 24th floor of an apartment building in downtown Toronto. I've found them mostly under things on the floor - especially things close to the wall. I cleaned my whole bedroom immediately and haven't received any bites since then. I have found two bugs in the bedroom since then however just no bites.

They're not very quick and I haven't found any bigger than the one shown here. I have found a couple smaller ones though. There were a particular lot in a small shag carpet on my bedroom floor with I threw it quickly!!!

Oh and I was just in the bahamas over the weekend.. and someone else on my floor is getting exterminated (bed bugs I think).

Thoughts on what this critter may be?

Thank you!

This is a grain beetle in the genus Oryzaephilus, either a saw-toothed (O. surinamensis) or merchant (O. mercator) grain beetle. These are pantry pests, and would not be responsible for any bite symptoms.

thank you for the diagnosis! That seems right. I've found a bunch in my cat's litter (made out of corn). But I've got another one for you...

Found this guy (image attached) on a sweater hanging in my closet. Seems I've got a bug problem :( anyone have an id?

that looks like another beetle.
Any chance your initial problem was fleas? You mention a cat. You did the right thing my cleaning.

I don't think he's had fleas. I have tried looking through his fur and haven't seen anything/ he hasn't seemed itchy. Any tips for checking for fleas? Maybe I missed them.

The second beetle possibly is a carpet beetle with its scales rubbed off...

Maybe fleas are not the problem after all. We'd look in the light colored belly fur for flea dirt- little black specks like pepper.

Well thanks everyone! I'll do a more thorough check on my cat and a good cleaning on the apartment!
