Hello! I live in the pacific northwest and had a large brush pile in my yard for about 2 weeks. When I burned the brush today I noticed a bug I've never seen before. They're heavy, one hit me right in the forehead. The brush pile might be unrelated. Also, recently had a record rainfall and storm the last 3 days.
Large winged wasp type creature
This is a wood wasp, also known as a horntail, in the family Siricidae. It appears to be Urocerus californicus - see http://swellbugs.blogspot.com/2012/08/urocerus-californicus.html
