Now I'm depressed...

Wow Sheila, I love that full look in your photo! I hope one day mine fills out nicely like that! What is the red flowering plant in the back of your photo? Not the red yucca, but the one to the left of the birdhouse, behind the yucca blooms.. Is that Turks cap? If it is, I had no idea it would get that tall!

Bezziec, shoe horn! Lol! I have to remember that!

Txflowerchild, I don't get much rain, that's for sure, but the shade bed in question sits right under a drippy gutter and will stay pretty wet for a day or two following a good downpour. Soil was amended well last spring though, so it drains faster than the clay I have elsewhere. I hope this will be good enough for my prospective plants :)

Pbtxlady, your mail carrier should be happy to have such a pleasant view along their route, but I have to admit, if I were that mail carrier you may not like me too much.. I don't think I could resist the seed heads come fall! Lol!

Yes SPWD, that is Turks Cap. It gets quite tall when supported with other plants.

Sheila, I may have to rethink my Turks cap placement. I had 2 seedlings growing in dappled shade under a redbud. Too much shade. Moved it to mostly sun on south side and it took off but I'm afraid still too small to stay outdoors this winter (or maybe I'm just chicken??), so I potted him and will be living indoors this winter. I hope to have a nice tall shape like yours within a few years I hope.

LOL, Becky! Well, usually I don't mind people taking seeds. Most of the plants in this bed came from something someone shared with me, so good to pass things along.

Josephine, I've been around, but my husband had a heart attack in June, so life changed a little. Trying to cook more whole foods with less sodium, getting through rehab, etc. He's doing very well so it's all good. Sorry I missed the fall RU and getting to see everyone, but we were supposed to be out of town that weekend.

Thank you for the report Pattie, I am sorry your husband has been sick, but glad he is better now.
Hope to see you in the spring. Take care.
Josephine.

Pattie, I had no idea. So sorry but glad he is recovering. Prayers added for both of you.

I'm still around but don't post very much. I am the happy recipient of many seeds from my DG friends. Actually, I prefer seed as opposed to a plant. Thanks to my friends I have switched to almost 100% native/wildflowers. So much easier to work with plants that can withstand the Texas summers. Thought about it for awhile and determined that Mother Nature does not harvest seed and wait for Spring. The seeds are just dropped and/or blown about to come up again. Of course, if you are doing the "native" thing, this works pretty well. I owe a great deal of my "learning" to Sheila and Josephine. When you are uncertain about a plant, pass it by and you will be glad you did.

I love you guys.

We love you too, and we miss you very much.

Still around.

Sorry about your DH's illness Pattie, but it is good news he is recovering nicely. Caregiver is not an easy job to take on.
Good to see you on fb Christi. I have hung on to that wall hanging I got for your tiki bar , think of you every time I see it. LOL! I will get it your way some day.

Thanks for the kind wishes and prayers, ladies. Hope everyone made it through the ice storm okay--and your trees too! Merry Christmas to everyone!
