Hi, got several cuttings and a plant this summer. The cuttings are all well-leafed out and the plant has 4 big buds. They are outside now, but in a few weeks it will be too cold in Chicago and I will have to bring them in. Most people say let them go dormant over the winter. Anyone done this in a similar climate?
Also, I was able to start a brug from seed and it's now 6 in. tall, with lots of leaves. The thing is, it doesn't have a woody trunk, so I want to grow it on over the winter. Thinking of using a grow light in a spot that receives a good amount of s.w. light. Any suggestions?
This is my first attempt at these.
Brugs in zone 5
Hi mosaiclady, Yes you can grow your seedling over the winter. If it is in a s.w. window you can skip the grow light. Just watch out for spider mites and keep it on the dry side.
I bring my big brug in and put it in the basement. It will drop all its leaves. It gets a small amount of
water every other week. In spring it comes back out and I start watering it more. And start with the fertilizer.
If you don't have a basement, you can put it anywhere, treat it like a houseplant and keep it on the dry side.
Thanks, I do have a basement and will keep it there.
You might want to spray them with the hort soap to make sure mites don't come in with them. Just a thought!
Rhaps
Yes, Rhaps is right, spray them good. I need to do that also.
