Why do some of the plant file entries list more than 1 height and spacing range for a particular plant? When more than one is listed, how do I know which one to use?
Plant Files Heights and Spacing
Plants do vary in height depending on environmental conditions. Spacing depends greatly on your growing methods. Sometimes the checkboxes list ranges where the actual plant falls in between. Take tomatoes for example: The normal height for a plant may be around 5-7 feet. In which case I would check the the 4-6 and 6-8 foot boxes. That same tomato may be an indeterminate. If I prune to a single leader I may space at 18 inches, I f I decide to let them sprawl I will use a three foot spacing.
Thanks for the explanation. So, if the spacing for a particular plant shows 6"-12" and 12" to 15", I could safely plant them 12" apart and they would not be too crowded but still form a nice clump.
