Saw these two lovely caterpillars on my carrot plants (the leaves, not the roots) the other day. Of whom are they the larvae? Are they (and their parents) friendly to the garden?

They're probably not good for your carrots. If you could move them to another host plant that would be great. Black Swallowtail cats love fennel. They will also eat parsley and, I have read, a number of other plants in the carrot family including Queen Anne's Lace and the native Zizia aurea. Though you might want to confirm this before moving them.
