I recently started a small vegetable garden, and found some small insects (~1mm length) crawling around the soil in one of my planter pots used for herbs. I've spent a while looking around the internet trying to classify them but am still not certain. I think they could be aphids, but am wondering if anyone could tell me what they were? There's what looked like fuzzy yellow stuff on top of soil in clumps, I'm guessing they were eggs that have now hatched into the bugs below. All the information on aphids seem to suggest they spend most of their life on the plant, but these are crawling around in the soil. Any help would be appreciated.
I took a scoop of dirt and placed on a sheet of paper to try and get a decent contrast-y shot. It's hard to make out the scale from the shot, the little guys are about 1 millimeter long.
