I've been curious as to what species, or at least genus this spider belongs to. I found them crawling around the ground at Miller's Pond State Park in Connecticut. From afar they appear black with a pale-yellow stipe on the abdomen.
Is there an archive that I can search if I don't get a name?

This most likely is an eastern parson spider, not dangerous to humans - http://www.spiders.us/guide/species/herpyllus-ecclesiasticus/
Thank you for the reply. It does look similar, but the one pictured has paired legs in the front; it looks like a species within the family of wolf spiders, but I can't pinpoint it so far.

I took a closer look with a magnifying glass (your image would not enlarge), and you are correct, it is a wolf spider, possibly this species (Schizocosa ocreata) - http://magazine.uc.edu/content/dam/magazine/images/0411/news6.jpg
