CLOSED: cricket with "chickadee" call, western oregon

Cottage Grove, OR(Zone 8a)

Thread updated with much better photos! :c)

I hear this cricket frequently in the summer along the trails through the woods. They sing on the ground, in the leaf litter. We don't hear them in the meadows, only in the woods. They sound kind of like an insect-voiced rendition of the "dee, dee, dee" call of a chickadee

Thanks for any leads on this cool critter!

Maybe I'm not good at playing 'Where's Waldo'...I cannot seem to find the cricket in the photo.

Here's a cropped image. It's quite blurry; I'll try to get a better photo one of these nights. :-)

While you wait for someone with better information, you might have a look at a site with photos by Mark Brown of crickets, grasshoppers and katydids. Maybe your little guy or gal will be there.

It appears to be a shield-backed katydid, maybe a Neduba sp. - http://bugguide.net/node/view/343311

Thanks, flapdoodle! That looks just like it, even the right gender. Neduba spp. it is!
