Anyone know what this is? Moving around on the bottom of my still water pond. About 30-40mm long.
The nearest I can get is a Cranefly larvae.
CLOSED: Crane fly larvae?????
I looked at Dytiscus/great diving beetle larvae, then lesser water beetle, and then great silver water beetle. But I think these 3 need to have their tail end poking up out of the water in order to 'breathe'.
Or maybe a caddisfly larvae, but I think they would not be in a still water pond.
Those are my 4 guesses, but I won't be walking barefoot in your pond anytime soon!
Someone should be along with a much better answer.
Thank you green33 for trying.
I thought it might be one of those you liat but non seem to match.
Should read.....................you list.............
It's a larva of a soldier fly in the family Stratiomyidae -
