What Is This Caterpillar?

Any idea what species these caterpillars are? They're everywhere, chewing on a wide variety of plants--natives, leeks, beans, peppers, New Zealand spinach... I'm in the high desert of SE Arizona. I've never seen these before this year. We have had a very wet July, less wet in August.
