CLOSED: Strange holes in ground

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

When I first saw the piles of soil, I thought they were ant hills. Now today, I see a distinct hole that is about 1in. across ~ put a stick down the track and it goes at least 1 ft. deep, at a 45* angle.

Any ideas?

Could be a lot of things including the Cicada Killer Wasp digging a new home.

I think you're dead on ~ I was just trying to get a pic of what I thought was a cicada killer when this thing fell out of the tree just a couple feet from me.

Double ugly!

Thanks for the video ~ lots of information. And yes, both of the burrows were angled to the South.

Yep they are ugly but my dog thinks they are delicious, nice and crunchy!

Good doggie! :)

He is a good dog. He will also dig on command, pull up roots, and take down a small tree if I encourage him enough. Except for Sassafras, he doesn't care for the taste of the root.
Good luck with your beneficial bugs!
