Hi!! Spotted this big guy in my backyard yesterday, his web went from my patio umbrella to my roof..OVERNIGHT!!! LOL!!! Can anyone tell me what it is? So far everyone thinks it's a Bat :) but it's definitely a spider..he ran like crazy up to the roof when I started taking pictures and came down about 4 hours later. Would appreciate any help, since part of his web is connected to my 7 yr. old's window and she is quite un-pleased...LOL!!!
It could be a type of Orb Weaver. They spin huge webs each night. See that spot light/security light on your house? The light attracts flying insects at night and the spider puts her web where she is most likely to catch insects. If you shut out that light and turn on a light away from your child's room, the spider may relocate.
I used to walk face first into the web each morning to hang out my laundry until I learned to shut off my porch light at night!
