Spider - Shelter Island, NY

This guy has been outside out door every evening. He builds a large web and is very active. By morning he is gone. Most of the web is gone as well. He's about the an inch or so.

What is he?

It's that time of year again- when everyone on the east coast posts pictures of these intimidating looking but harmless orb weaving spiders.
