Tiny black bug

Council Bluffs, IA

Killed several of these in my bathroom in the last couple of days. They are tiny - about the size of a flea and don't seem to fly. They are hanging out by my bathroom sink and in the shower. Any help identifying so I can eliminate would be much appreciated.

The image isn't clear enough to be certain, but it doesn't look like anything of serious concern. If your home is fairly new, One possibility is a foreign grain beetle, aka new house beetle - they feed on mold such as may be found growing on damp plaster - http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/iiin/bthenew.html and http://www.entomology.wisc.edu/insectid/insect_info.php?351

Thanks, our home is a new build. We moved in June 28th of this year. I think you are right about this being some kind of new build pest issue. We also have a problem with fruit flies even though we have no fruit, vegetable or any other type of food sitting out where they could be a food source. We take the trash out every time we put food in it and are very aware of all the measures to take to be sure we are not creating a breeding ground for them but we have them anyway and trap around 10 a day. We asked our neighbors and they have fruit flies as well although I haven't asked if they are seeing the foreign grain beetle. We do have a corn field in the back so perhaps the fruit flies and beetles are coming from there but it does seem like both are predominately in the bathroom and kitchen areas rather than around windows so I wonder if they are in the pipes somehow? Pretty much the entire neighborhood is new so lots of sod watering going on. Perhaps this is producing some lawn fungus that both are attracted to? Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
