Hate earwigs....they ate all my clems this year.......I need to make some apple jelly, guess I'll start it in a few minutes....have to babysit for a few hours later today......windows still need to be painted....I'm putting things off as you can see!

I make apple jelly in the crock pot.

Thomaston, CT

Well, I have remake the jelly with pectin......it didn't jell without it.....all that work for nothing.....I used about a dozen apples & only made 2 small jars of the jelly!

Correction - I make Apple Butter in the crockpot - not apple jelly. Maybe try just boiling down the apple jelly more - it should have enough pecton to jell on its own.

Schickenlady, did you have no tomatoes because you didn't plant any? Or did something happen?

I just happened upon this thread. EVERYTHING in our veggie garden was late. Tomatoes (Early Girl!!!) didn't really start rolling til September. But most things did well. First year in several when the tomatoes were really tasty. I thought I'd have to give up on the eggplant, but it's chortling along. I pick them half size. In our local grocery store (not super market - possibly local produce), there was a bin of "baby eggplant." Looked just like mine. Cauliflower was a total failure. It usually is. I'm going to keep trying until I hit a year with perfect weather. Broccoli wasn't as prolific as usual. Heading into the cook and freeze kohl plants season.

I think I'm trying the pectin, Memory....I boiled that jelly way past the time it should have jelled......the therm. would only go to 200....it needed to hit 225 for jelly. LAS, your garden sounds like it did quite well.....I planted purple peacock broccoli in April.....I have 2 tiny sprouts & something has eaten all the foliage.....my beets & carrots are very small this year as well.....2 peppers....just a disaster.....

Picked paw-paws today. They are an acquired taste.

Description said like a banana custard.....no?

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

That is a good description. The flesh is wet and slick.

Oh.....probably not something I would eat!

I did plant 4 but they had no care. Had a full time job and plus. Sometimes 55 hrs per week and I was crapped out. Now things have changed. Down to 10 hours and looking for another place to work. If you really want to hear my story before I have a total breakdown, just with this job . I will tell you.

Sounds like you're one of the folks they're talking about on Marketplace on NPR!!!! Good luck!!1

No frost here, yet......tomatoes are still ripening.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

t's going strong here too - may start cleaning up the other veggies soon.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Plenty of tomatoes here, too. I picked a bunch of eggplant and froze them last week - there are still more small ones on the plants.

Asian pears and paw-paws are ripening and the Fuyu persimmons are starting to color up. Still getting figs everyday. I found a recipe for medlar jelly - so I can put the medlars to good use when they come in and blet after the first frost.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

need to get my eggplant for the big musaka meal.

Thomaston, CT

Never made it......we have a Greek restaurant nearby, but I always order souvlaki......
