Hi there! I'm new here. Saw this fairly large (quarter-sized all in all, with legs I'd say) spider making a web this evening near my shed (the beige part of the picture) and rose bush. As you can see in the photo, it's orange with brown and white striped legs. I'm just curious to know more about this mesmerizing spider. I live in Staten Island, NY.

It's an orb weaving spider (family Araneidae), but the image is too fuzzy for a more specific identification. Try Googling "Neoscona crucifer" to see if you can find an image resembling your spider.
