anybody good at chirps..??... pretty sure it's an insect, but I've never heard a sound like this... every night for nearly a week.. all night long; in central Michigan

I missed this one when you posted. At first I wanted to say cicada but I am pretty sure they are the Katydids/Pterophylla camellifolia calling to each other.

I pretty much gave up on replies; but saw your answer today.... I think you got it... I have seen katydids in my yard, but always thought their sound was "katy-did...katydid".... guess not, I saw this on youtube also... thanks...

You're better than I am, I thought cicadas were katydids until last year.
Now I know the katydids are like weird shaped grasshoppers and the cicadas look like they are from outer space.
I tried to listen to some Youtube videos before I responded but the cicadas started up and I couldn't hear over their real life noises.
