The smaller fly with an interesting wing pattern was the first time I saw in the yard. The other bigger and brownish fly had been seen before, but mostly when I did not have a camera ready. Which are these, please?
Two flies to be identified
The one on the left is a flower/hover fly in the family Syrphidae (there are several species with a very similar color pattern); the one on the right could be a fruit or pomace fly, but I would like a closer look at its wing veins, particularly the costal vein near the base of the wing.
