I was enjoying a beautiful morning on my deck, when I noticed what looked like a cocoon hanging from a tall blade of ornamental grass that I have growing in a large pot among other flowers. Only, the next time I happened to look that way, the thing had switched to a different blade of grass! I've noticed it migrate all morning, and am wondering what in the fudgsicle this thing is? Is it a moth or butterfly INSIDE of a cocoon, attached to the grass at the mouth? I was a little creeped out and could not find an image like this in researching the internet. Does anyone know what this might be?
CLOSED: What is this bug that I thought was a cocoon?!?
I think it's a bagworm (Psychidae); they carry their home with them.
I think you are exactly right! Thank you so much.
There are bunches of YouTube videos of this very interesting little creature!
