I'm just not sure, can anyone help me out? Sorry the picture of the bark is sideways but it was taken upright and for some reason it gets turned when I post the picture?

Zelkova serrata also has rather divergent buds (about 45 degree angle) from the stems, where Elm buds are typically appressed.

This is really easy to see during dormant season, when there aren't any of those confusing leaves around.
