I've updated my 'progress' over here

Oh, your pics are stunning. Thank you for sharing. The colors just stir my soul!
We are having a hard time here trying to reconcile our loss.
It's really eerie without them. :/
I saw one yesterday. First one since early Spring when I got some cats. I have milkweed and i keep checking for eggs but so far, none. Im rearing 2 spice bush, one from an egg.
I have seen 8 and 9 since the pic , Saw a Red Spotted Purple today ,
shorthog ; Thank you also for some inspiration , 8 or 9 is not many when your use to 25 -50 during a season ..
I saw a Monarch today heading south. I was headed west and it passed over the road from right to left. That's south, right?! :D
None of the eggs hatched that I collected from the Monarch that came thru last week (when was that now?!). She was all over the yard with many more plants out there too. I have been watching carefully for signs of cats, but nothing. Very odd.

Monday afternoon spoyyed one high overhead followed by another, riding the winnds through the tall tree tops about 30 feet up. Made me think of a roost starting to form.
Yesterday in same spot I practiced sighting early red/orange leaves 'falling' as not butterflies!
Today is day 12 for first of nine chrysalises I am fostering and 3rd day for the youngest.
Via con dios little ones!
Here in my corner of the garden Monarchs apparently stopped by. I was busy elsewhere and did not see the butterflies then. I tried to raise a couple dozen 1st instars (newly hatched larvae), but the dried air indoor due to air condition threatened their survival. So I turned them free into the many Milkweeds I've around the garden. Last week, I saw the 1st chrysalis, here is the second. Others either didn't make it or are well hidden from view.
I've seen many orange butterflies from a distance. Though, some in close up turned out to be Gulf Frits. So this year, as far as Monarchs, I've seen very few thus far.
The chrysalid are those of larvae that were discovered on 1st week of Sept.
It's been over a week now for the last Monarch seen here.
I have dutifully recorded my sightings on the Journey North site and noted plenty of sightings still in the northern and mid Atlantic states. Then of course we had out first hard frost. And now this massive storm system cutting straight across their migratory path.
Will keep hope beyond hope. Thanks for sharing your sightings here.
