Hi,
complete newbie here, so apologies if this seems very trivial:
I have a small balcony garden and one of my plants has been infested by dozens of what I think are wasps. I read that hoverflies look similar so I'm a bit confused.
Would anyone be able to confirm what I'm looking at and if you have any ideas of how to get rid of them without killing them all? (if possible?)
Thanks a lot in advance!!
Anthony
CLOSED: Wasps or hoverflies?
These definitely are wasps in the family Vespidae - http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/life/Vespidae
Thanks for your reply - off to find what to do about them now!
This looks like a European Hornet to me.
They more likely are common wasps (Vespula vulgaris) - http://www.animalphotos.me/insect3/wasp-com_files/wasp1.jpg
They definitely are NOT European hornets - http://www.gardensafari.net/pics/wespen/echte_wespen/vespa_crabro_ha3_1170.jpg

This is what we called European Hornet where I live. That is why I thought that's what it was. I apologize if I was incorrect.
