My Obedient Plant is one of the few loving the heat.
August Blooms
That is beautiful Sweetmommy, I have those too and I love them.
Love it. Does it come back for you each year? Mine doesn't so I wonder what I'm doing wrong.
It does for me and it multiplies rapidly.
Oh Marty!! I love the packaging but mainly the beautiful creature enjoying it.
What is his, her name?
Love your kitty Marty. I posted these on another thread but they are so pretty.
My spider lily is blooming. Bought this as an empty pot from Arbor Gate, it was on deep clearance, and when I was checking out I got a couple strange looks. What can I say.
My red crepe myrtle is lovely, it is the only one I own and every year about this time I wonder why I don't have more.
And although he isn't near as cute as Marty's kitty, Jam insisted on photo bombing my pictures of my sword vine.
Well, I am not a dog fan, but he is pretty cute too.
HER name is C.C. About 4 years ago, she showed up with no hair covered in bites and very very thin. Another neighbor and I began to feed her and we named her CC for "community cat". We discovered she had no front claws and we made sure she ate. The neighbor moved away about 2 years ago, leaving just me and CC. We've gotten closer and she lives inside with me now. It has taken a long time for her coat to recover. Actually it is not complete yet. It has been interesting to see how the body prioritizes where the nutrition goes first. It has taken her a long time to develop trust as well. We are not all the way there on that one yet either! Before she became a strictly indoor cat, she would run to meet me as I was getting out of my car, just like a dog. sorry to hijack the thread but you know how us pet lovers are.
Joy, say Hi to Jam for me. See you in the fall ! Love that American wisteria!
Bezzie, Im glad someone else sticks up for the Mexican Petunia besides me! I love those things. Here's one of mine posted in July. It rained here today. I'll get a shot tomorrow because I know they will be splendid.
Very interesting history there, our cat Angel adopted us also, we love her dearly.
Marty, save me some of the pink Ruellia seed please. Kitt was nice enough to stop by with a couple plants, I have killed one ad the other is small but blooming a little. I just want to hedge my bets. I love my wisteria too!
My new coneflower is temporarily happy, I cannot seem to keep them that way.
I have a yellow and a red/yellow milk weed that haven't stopped.
My cozmos from our spring RU.
I have a red lantana peeking out of my basil.
steadycam3---I love kitties too. This one showed up at our back door one cold night in 2010, crying like a baby. I knew that if I fed her, I would have a cat for good, but I couldn't stand to hear her cry like that. I gave her some grilled chicken, which is all I had at the moment. The picture tells the rest of the story!!! Our granddaughter named her Virginia which doesn't exactly roll off your tongue for a cat's name, but Virginia it is. And yes, she stands on her back legs and drinks from the birdbath.
Bezzie, I think she looks like a Virginia. It suits her. You should send that photo to Melody to use for the Sunday Funnies. A cat sitting on a frog beside a bird bath would be too good to pass up for some funny quips.
Joy, I thought I mailed you some pink seed ages ago. Guess I dreamed it. I wont forget you want some. I have them already pkged up. I'll try to remember to mail them. If not, jingle my chain near the RU and I'll try that.
Such pretty flowers blooming in this heat and such cute little furries! I'm a cat lover, so of course, I've enjoyed the cat pics and stories. My first kitty adopted me and we had 10 lovely years together. She, too, was declawed on the front and made the transition to an indoor kitty. She was a scared, skittish girl who hid under the bed or coffee table every time it rained or there was a noise, but with constant love, patience, and food, she came around.
Here are a few things blooming in my garden.
Rock rose--not as prolific with the blooms in partial shade, but still reliable.
Yellow shrimp plant (from Smock at one of my first RUs in Arlington)
Esperanza (Yellow Bells)
Gomphrena "Strawberry Fields" (from bananna)
Lantana horrida (volunteer) and Turk's Cap in the background
Marty, it is still alive and kicking! I have it potted up on my front porch. I noticed it doesn't grow as vigorously as the others, too.
Stephanie or anyone? What does Rock Rose like? I have one in the ground in part shade and one in a huge pot in the sun. Neither of them looks anything like yours, Stephanie.
They do well in full sun or partial sun. They like it hot, but also like water. My neighbor has one that I gave her a couple of years ago. It gets the east morning sun and then shade in the afternoon. I'm sure she doesn't pay much attention to it, but it blooms like crazy!
Thanks, Im getting a few small, pale blooms on the one in the sun but the leaves are small and unhealthy-looking. I had a camellia in that pot in the past. Maybe it's too acid for the RR. I'll check the pH and see if that is the problem. The one in the shade looks healthy but no blooms. Probably needs more light.
Oops, I slacked off. Yes, my Obedient plant comes back every year and multiplies A LOT. I made the mistake of planting it in one of my raised vegetable beds, for color, and it's just about taken over the bed. I'll be doing some relocating when it cools down a bit.
My Mexican petunias are very self sufficient, too. It's just a matter of planting them in the right place. How can you not like "self sufficient"??!!
Love all of the adopted human stories! You are very kind. I'd take them all in, if I could.
Sorry, I've never figured out why the photos are upright on my computer but upload sideways here.
Sphaeralcea coccinea shows a lot of variation. Tried to grow it from seed with no luck so I ordered 2. One died and this one is barely hanging on. I wanted the variety that has more narrow leaves and upright growth. I might try one more time with seed. Definitely needs a dry bed in lean soil.
Carolina phlox had to be cut back but this its rebloom.
Very nice and unusual Cheryl.
Very pretty!
Cheryl, when did you cut back the carolina phlox? It looks good.
A little over 2 weeks ago. They were flopping over and most of the flower was gone.
Cheryl, how far down did you cut them? The ones at Fielder need something done, the heat has taken a great toll even with watering twice a week, sandy soil can be a real problem.
I just cut off the tops. The spent bloom plus 3-4 inches. You can usually see small buds in the lower leaf axils and I try to cot back to those. Dont take off too much as they wont rebloom.
Cheryl, I love your "unusual" plants!! Thank you for sharing them with us.
Today
Cheryl, what happened today?
She forgot her camera?
Lol guess the pic didn't load.
