Sorry for the horrendous picture.( I had a jewelers loop and a cell phone to work with). These tiny iridescent bees numbering about 20, invaded an office in our building while the occupant was on vacation. They average about 5 millimeters in length. Location is Phoenix AZ. My first guess is it's a sweat bee. It's hard to see, but it has double wings so I'm ruling out some type of fly. Am I close?
CLOSED: Invading Bee?
I admire you with your jewelers loop; never would have thought of that. Could it be Agapostemon virescens?
Certainly look like Agapostemon, but there are other species in that genus with quite similar appearance, such as A. texanus...
I don't have a clue as to which species. Based on your input, I did a little reading and I guess they have formed a little "hive/colony" either in the brick, aluminum window frame or outside in the dirt. Why and how they're coming inside other than for a little air conditioning will have to bee (pun Intended) their little secret. Thank you for the information.
