Fall Swap 2013 at Sallygs Haves and Wants Discussion

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I bagged up a dozen bulbs each in 8 bags of the daffs with the deep
Yellow trumpet.
I also bagged up assorted other daffs, tete-a-tetes, and some assortments.
All the cuttings I have rooting....the potted plants---everyone is so quiet!!!

I am hoping to hear from some of you that you may want something
from my "haves" list. I am getting worried that all my efforts will be for nil.
The Swap is just THREE weeks away, Folks!!!!

Gita

again--here are the Daffodils I have 8 bags of. A dozen in each.

THose daffodils are 'Salome' I believe- I will take some.

three weeks?? Where did August fly to?

I was bad- I potted peanut butter shrubs and forgot to water them. Catmint- May have to get from Chantell if they don't recover.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

thanks, Sally! I understand!

My own bad news is that my Monarda 'Coral Reef' keeps getting brown edges and wilting on the leaves and I'm having trouble keeping the babies alive... I'm not sure what the matter is with it. :-(

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally--They could be Salome. I know I have bought these in the past...

So--how many do you want? One dozen per bag. G.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

SSG, can you tell me more about what kind of canna you have? I'm trying to figure out what it might like for sun, soil, etc. :-)

Central, MD(Zone 7a)

Gita, you can sign me up. I'll plant them all together and call them Gitas daffs!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally--
On second thought--I don't think they are "Salome" because Salome's
trumpets are a pink.
On these bukbs I have--the trumpet is almost butterscotch yellow.

I did once look through all the B&B Bulbs daffs and there was one very similar.
Have to find it again for the name....G.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Paul--

Here is what i will do.
Any bulbs I have left (not requested) will be yours...Deal?

I remember you liked these daffs. I also have a few bulbs for you
of the "old fashioned" ones--the doubles in yellow with touches of green.
Someone called them "heirloom".
I found my first ones just growing wild in the ditch about 40 years ago.
Odd that they still pop up--IF they are the same ones...

Are you into day Lilies? I could dig some up for you....G.

I,m killing time at work. Have no access to my pictures....

Hey gang- I just sent an Untitled dmail which is my address and directions. Let me know if you have any questions.

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Last call for plants from me -- If you'd like anything I'm happy to oblige but I need to know tomorrow at the latest....

Also -- if you want to, please check my "haves and wants" posting to make sure I have you down for anything you are counting on, because if it isn't there, that means I have forgotten it and I want to make sure you are taken care of. (Catmint -- this doesn't include the plants we discussed ....)I did have a few "crop failures" -- I'll try to address by dmail.

My bad- for posting to this starter thread- I will copy happy's post above to the continuation thread

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

WOULD ANYONE BE INTERESTED IN A PRETTY LARGE CLUMP OF
VINCA MAJOR?

I can cut back all the runners and dig it up for you. It is several years old....

Let me know---Gita

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

and if thats not enough, dig out all you want from my yard...anybody thought they'd like to plant forty square feet of it? Variegated.

David gave a me flat or two of VInca minor one year- I traded for it so I could give it to my neighbors, who wanted enough to go around two trees.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Got a ton of the variegated stuff here, too. It has to go. Hoping somebody will want to dig it up later this fall or next spring... between my patch & Sally's, we could provide groundcover for half an acre! LOL

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

A couple (immediate need of answer)questions-as i am packing up...

I know there were 3 people that asked for the DWARF HOSTA.
Jill---Cat---and WHO????????? LMK!

Sally--Do you still want that galvanized tub for your hypertuffa?????

Thanks--Gita

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

Gita: it was I who wanted the third dwarf hosta -- thanks!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks--happy. I guess I never wrote it down....

Gita

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I'll take the galvanized tub, thanks.

Thanks, Gita!

HOORAY!!! Fun news

My new neighbor Martina just came over -- she thought she wouldn't be able to come to the plant swap, but she juggled things, and now she can come! She'll probably bring both Sarah (6) and Angela (not quite 2), which will cement Joyanna's wish to come for sure.

She's a gardener. Yay!!! They have some sunny space around the pool out back, and I think she's thinking in terms of tropical-looking plants out there. I'm also getting her interested in herbs and fragrant plants. (I just scored her a $5 Hibiscus mos. Summerific series on clearance at Lowe's)

The previous owner put in a very pretty little half to full shade landscape bed with a little waterfall in the back corner of the yard... it's pretty well planted up, but there's room for shade plants to either side.

I think she might want to get rid of a gigantic Agastache ('Honey Bee Blue' lookalike IMO), so we might dig that up before we come and will probably have to cut it back.

I know she's also looking for houseplants of all kinds. They moved in mid-summer, so she's finally feeling settled enough to turn her attention to indoor & outdoor gardening. She said she didn't really have plants to bring so would just come to enjoy the party... I said she'd probably go home with a couple of plants, anyway. :-)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

YAY another sucker to help with the extra plants NEW GARDEN FRIEND

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hehehe. YAY!!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I'm really potting at the last minute this year... LMK if there's anything you'd like your name on!

Hibiscus syriacus (Rose of Sharon) 1-2 ft. toddlers, probably violet, maybe white/red

Threadleaf Coreopsis 'Zagreb', dug from near the mailbox, so give it time to grow deeper roots in the pot. This is one tough plant, could only put roots down a couple inches, did just fine!

Salvia 'Caradonna' -- similar to 'May Night' but with dark stems, let it root in its pot over the winter

Vine -- help ID it and then take one home. Thought it was American Wisteria, then thought I saw a jasmine type bloom. ?

Does anybody want a BALE of Liriope? It's the plain green kind, but it makes a nice plant for defining the edge of a border. Not sure I want to haul it into the car if nobody speaks up for it.

I'll try to get some mints potted in the morning, too.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I won't let Salvia Caradonna go unloved, if there are enough to go around.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Critter, I'd like to try some salvia 'Caradonna' also.

I hope to bring some plants for 'show and tell' with a sign up sheet for divisions or cuttings I'll do in time for bulb sorting or next Spring.

Sedums
Semps
Coleus
Heucheras
Tropicals
Misc

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

And I have that huge pot from coleup with a banana and several black stem Taro that need somewhere to spend the winter, either together or divided.

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Sally, they can come back 'home' for the winter! I've got it down to a good system for overwintering them like I have in years past.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hmm, wonder if my neighbor has a sunny space for that pot, Sally... If the banana isn't much more than 7 feet tall, it would fit in my basement. :-) My "big" banana got dropped when it was being moved out this spring, broke the pseudostem at the base and never re-sprouted. Not that I *need* another banana plant, but if it's begging for a home...

Does anybody need moisture crystals? I've got some 2 pound bags left from dividing my bulk bag in spring... $11 per bag. I think I might have a 5 pound bag left also, for $25. These are the polymer crystals from Watersorb.org. http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/1092/

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Coleup, are you going to be here over the winter after all?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Jill--

I can give Martina some houseplants to grow an enjoy.
Ask her if she would like to grow ans nurturethese. ALL rooted and potted.

-Spider plants--both plain and curly, Most in 4" pots
--Swedish Ivy--she can have a HB of it or a 5" pot start.
Good light--and watering all that's needed.
They are so stately hanging a couple feet down. Put outside in summer--part to AM sun.
--Angel Wing Begonia--good size. 6" pot. I just cut it back.
--Another Begonia (NOID)--kind of silvery/green leaves. Pretty.
--Lots of Coleus--IF she knows how--and wants to grow these as houseplants???
Fishnet Stockings are all rooted. So are Inky Fingers. Will bring extras.
--A smallish Snake Plant. Rooter division if big one. 6" pot.
----Small Holiday Cactus--should bloom this fall????

NOW!!!
My car is all packed already. May be hard to get all this together--but i will
check here first thing tomorrow when i get up. I do need to take a shower--
get all "pretty"--have a bite to eat and pack up all the food items.

Cutting it close here, Girl!!!....WHY so last minute, Jill????
I suppose it could be doable....

BTW--Karen is bringing her DH (Sean) and her 2 children as well.
Boy (August)--5; Girl--(Adelle)--2.
Both pretty adventurous...they all should have a ball!

Bedtime----Gita

annapolis, MD(Zone 7b)

Quote from critterologist :
Coleup, are you going to be here over the winter after all?

Yep. looks like I will be here for a while yet. Daughter's house just too small for another person and alternatives haven't worked out yet. Even if something does fall into place a major move won't happen til Spring/summer.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, you know we're not eager for you to move by any means, Coleup... still, sorry things aren't falling into place, as I know you wanted to be closer to your daughter & grandkids.

LOL, Gita, I just haven't been out in the garden! True, we've been back for a couple of weeks, but there's been a lot to catch up on. Besides, I'm always digging something at the last minute. :-)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

And thanks, Gita -- Martina will be thrilled with any/all of those!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Drive safe and remember- there's a court RIGHT BEFORE mine with a very similar looking street name. Look for the J in the middle..and the HUGE tree at the edge of my lot by the driveway.
Use the driveway, or use it to unload at least, then park on the court or street. Most festivities will end up in the back (except Judy may set up in front to display show and tell items- be sure to ask Judy if they are show only before taking )
