Thanks, Sally---never heard of it....
My neighbor would not care what it is called....she just buys plants
that she likes--and plants them.
These things were tall! at least 4'. G.
End of summer blooms
Not really Paul- lol- I've grown them- they have that wonderful tropical sweetness as Nicotiana and Moonflower vines. Mine weren't that tall so maybe its the weather this year with plenty of rain. I don't know why they aren't more well known. ARTICLE!!! lol
Sally--
you always can get ideas on new Articled on here....
You could put it out to the MAF to list ideas... I bet you would
have lots to write about....Gita
Thanks Sally,
Oh BTW, some where on one of these threads we were talking about sun or shade for the Peanutbutter Bush and I just wanted to let you all know that I paid attention and mine is in full sun from at least 10:00am till sun set.
Wait until October!!!
Mine has a huge flush coming too. All buds right now...to the tips.
The Dr. is worth his weight in gold---or yellow....
Wait! Gold IS yellow... G.
wow Holly! My Maya just got done with a nice flush- smelled so good. Looking forward and hoping for two more flushes.
I took my Epis and the Ric Rac, as well as one of the bunches of Pregnant Onion
and 8 pots of the Brazilian Plume flower to Cylburn and passed them on to Scott.
He was a bit Ho-Hum about the pregnant Onion--as it really has NO redeeming value.
But--he said so-and-so may want to mess around with all the babies.
We had some long talks and walks. They have mounds of almost every Coleus
growing along the Greenhouses. Some I have never seen. Told him about mine...
Scott does NOT appear to be the most friendly, congenial man at first--but we did OK.
I will take ONE stem off my big Dr. Seuss (for me) and he will come and pick up the
BIG Dr. S. (which it WILL be by October) as I want them to have it in full bloom.
Telling you all this--b/c I will not be growing out too many Dr. S. for Swaps.
Many of you now have it--so share.
My Maya (mostly) and now the pink NOID keep dropping leaves.
Discovered they both have, what I think , is Whitefly. Sprayed each leaf yesterday--
and today, I watered in a good dose of Systemic Granules in both their pots.
The Dr. seems to be OK so far. It is far removed from the other two.
Gita
the pink Brug tends to be my problem child, and my Dr has suffered from mites too- all got a does of Bayer last week. Maya is my easy child.
I think many average non plant people would find Pregnant Onion interesting, at the right stage where they can see the babies. But the straggling leaves are problematic.
My hardy Ginger from Chantell is about to show me the first blooms- so exciting.
Sally--
That is what Scott said today--they do so much propagating of the Maya
because it seems to be immune to bugs and diseases.
Sadly--the mama Maya (the one I gave them) was seriously covered
with Mealy Bugs...They had Colonies on a single leaf.
Scott did not seem to be overly concerned. He said he will treat it with a Systemic.
"Marathon" (Generic of this is "Merrit") for both soil Mealies as well as the ones on the leaves.
He mentioned other products that can work wonders...I never heard of.
He is, seriously, into all this business--so I was "lost" at some things he was talking about..
There seems to be a place near me (Buck's Schoolhouse Rd.) that has these available.
Kind of--like a commercial garden supplier place....
G.
Of course--many of them are available only on a commercial level.
Gita, I was noticing some flaky/powdery white spots on one of my hydrangeas today, and I wonder if it is mealybugs?
Cat--
Do they move when disturbed? Then they may be White Fly or something else.
White flies DO fly!
Mealy Bugs do not move around much. Get a magnifying glass and see if you can see
any that look like tiny Armadillos. Adult Mealy Bugs have legs and a head, etc..
Their "nurseries" are the fluffy, white deposits in nooks and crannies.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mealybug
Hydrangeas could also have scale..as they are woody. There is white scale...
as would be found on Euonymous. (sp?).
Gita
thanks, Gita. From the description it doesn't sound like mealy bugs because the deposits are in the middle of leaves, not in nooks and crannies. Maybe it is scale?
Cat--
Mealies can also be by the middle of the leaves...
Take a cotton ball dipped in Alcohol and wipe down the areas you see the white stuff.
Mealie's shells are wax and kind of dissolve instantly....don't know what exactly happens to
the organism itself...
IF your infestation is severe--you may need to cut out the affected stems..
Or--you may have to give the whols shrub a serious dose of a Systemic
all around the base. water it in--often--so the bush can absorb it.
A slow process-but it may help...

Seems my old, white Azaleas also get some kind of white fuzzy scale/mealies (??)
every year. I ignore them--as these bushes are huge....
Nasty things these are!!!!! Gita
Thanks Gita I'll give that a try!
coleup!!!!
You still around???? Haven't seen you posting in ages....
Glad to see you jump in here.
WHEN do you, actually, move?????
Have you seen my Fishnet Stockings Coleus photos?
The new growth is reverting back to the darker patterns.
Maybe b/c I moved it in a bit more sun? It is also getting BIG!
How is yours doing???? Gita
Gita
Coleup, You have been very missed. The Echies are very colorful.

Here are 2 pics of the dazzleberry sedum. It is right next to a small "Angelina", but I don't know if I will keep it there. The second pic is farther away, you can see a corner of my acalypha.
3 pics of some of my sunflowers. Just can't get a good pic of the SF in #3. Jury is still out on the burgundy color of this SF. It's a little too dark for such a happy plant, don't you think?
Typ, I think your sunflower is quite exotic looking! I like it! :-)
Love the echinacea 'Cheyenne Spirit'.
