How do I know when the fruit is ready for harvesting for seed collection? It is fairly bright orange and soft; mushy-soft, really. I plan to clean the seeds and sow immediately, maybe treat some to GA3, or use hot water treatment to improve germination. I read somewhere that in the wild turtles eat the fruit and the seed germinates well after having passed through the turtle's gut. Box turtles, specifically. I don't have any box turtle volunteers lined up so I have to experiment using other methods.
