Have a small group of these rather large insects flying around, but have been unable to ID. About 1 to 1.5", seem non aggressive and do not seem interested in the many flowers all around them - help please.

Cicada killer wasp - look like overgrown yellowjackets, but are not aggressive and seldom sting. http://www2.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef004.asp

Thanks Flapdoodle. We are having a good crop of cicada this year so these guys are enjoying the abundance.
