I've recently begun noticing a large flying insect in my backyard. They are usually attracted the flowers I have in containers on my patio. Not sure what this is! I'm located in northern New Jersey.
Large Wasp (?) in northern NJ
Hi, It's a moth and it won't hurt you. Not sure from your photo but I think it is a Narrow Bordered Bee Hawk Moth (Pic 3). There is also a Broad Bordered Bee Hawk Moth (Pic 2) and the one that people generally confuse these the Humming Bird Hawk Moth (Pic 1). They are all day flying and hover around flowers sucking the nectar. Of course you may have other similar moths in NJ.
