I'm pretty sure this is a type of wolf spider (we have lots of them; orb weavers, too). Found this on my door this morning. Located in semi-rural, coastal area in Southern California.

Nursery Web spider? Definitely not a Wolf.
Looks like a running crab spider in the genus Tibellus - http://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/spiders/Tibellus.htm
Thanks kwanjin and Flapdoodle.
I checked both suggestions and the nursery web is close, but I think it is an oblong running crab spider (Tibellus oblongus). The head seems to be the right size and position, and there are two black dots near the tail end. I had to blow up my own pic to confirm. Attached is a pic of a similar specimen.
